Restoration of Tooth Function

Crowns fix teeth that are damaged or weak. The crown covers the whole tooth. This makes the tooth strong again so you can chew and bite without problems.

Crowns look natural and nice. If you have a tooth that is discolored, misshapen, or decayed, a crown can make it look good as new. Your smile will look great!

Crowns last a long time if you take care of them. With good brushing and regular dental visits, your crowns can stay strong for 10 years or more.

How It Works

Teeth Preparation For Crown Placement

Dr. Georgina will gently remove any damaged portions of your tooth and prepare it for your new crown. When necessary, she’ll reinforce specific areas to create a strong foundation that ensures your crown fits perfectly and lasts for years to come.

Impressions From Your Teeth

We will capture images of your teeth. We will do this either with our 3D digital scanner. Then, we will send the images to a dental lab for your custom crown.

Placing a Temporary Crown

Your custom crown will be ready in just a few days. Meanwhile, Dr. Georgina will place a comfortable temporary crown to protect your tooth during this brief waiting period.

Removing Temporary Crowns

On your second visit, we gently remove temporary crowns from the tooth we prepared. We use dental instruments to do this. Next we examine and clean the tooth for permanent crown placement.

Crown Assessment

We examine the appearance and alignment of your new crown. We ensure it matches the nearby teeth’s shape, color, and fit.

Crown Attachment

We bond the new crown onto your tooth using strong dental cement. This ensures a secure and durable attachment.

Are dental crowns considered permanent fixtures?

While dental crowns are long-lasting, they may eventually need replacement. With proper care and maintenance, your crown can last 15 years or more. Dr. Georgina uses high-quality materials and precise techniques to ensure your crown provides durable, reliable protection for your tooth.

Most patients resume normal activities immediately after their crown procedure. You might experience slight sensitivity for a day or two, particularly to hot and cold temperatures, but this is temporary and normal. Our gentle techniques help ensure minimal discomfort during recovery.

  • Ice cubes
  • Very hard nuts
  • Popcorn with kernels
  • Sticky treats like taffy and caramels

These items have the potential to harm your crown.

Dental crowns can last 15 or more years with good oral hygiene and regular dental visits. At our Del Mar office, Dr. Georgina uses high-quality materials and advanced techniques to ensure your crown’s longevity. While no crown lasts forever, proper care significantly extends its lifespan.

  • Brush teeth at least twice daily using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss between teeth once daily.
  • Use mouthwash to prevent dental plaque and harmful bacteria.
  • Avoid very hard, crunchy, or chewy foods.
  • Consult your dentist about using a custom mouth guard if you grind or clench your teeth (bruxism).
  • Schedule routine dental cleanings and exams.

The average cost of dental crowns in the San Diego area ranges from $1,200 to $2,500 per tooth. At our practice, Dr. Georgina provides exceptional value, combining competitive pricing with premium materials and expert care. We’re committed to offering some of San Diego’s best crown prices without compromising quality.

Your dental crown should not cause pain. Inform your dentist for additional anesthesia if you experience discomfort during the procedure.

A dental crown is suitable for extensively damaged or decayed teeth. It provides versatility for reinforcing cracks or enhancing aesthetics.

While various crown materials exist, Dr. Georgina primarily recommends two premium options at our Del Mar practice:

All-Ceramic (All-Porcelain) Crowns: Beautiful, natural-looking restorations perfect for visible front teeth

Zirconia Crowns: Exceptional strength combined with aesthetics, ideal for any tooth location

These modern materials provide the perfect balance of durability and natural appearance for lasting results.
